Update of my life!

Hello everyone!  I know I have been bad about blogging.... I have been meaning to write for weeks and there just always seems like there is something else that comes up before I can sit down to finally do it so thank you mom for pointing it out so that I knew that other people had actually noticed too haha.

There are so many things to say I don't even know where to begin... I went to an outdoor $2 salsa class with some friends last week which was very fun and I have decided that salsa is definitely my favorite type of dance.  Its just so much fun and pretty fast paced and you can spin and twirl and its just great except that I was in a group with a bunch of guys who had no idea what they were doing and unfortunately salsa is extremely machismo and the guy controls everything so if you have a partner who doesn't know what hes doing its not so fun. I have definitely been spoiled having Andrew as my partner for a year because he just flicks a wrist or moves his arm a little and I somehow know exactly what to do!

I also finally found and started my internship which is at Fundacion Hogar Esperanza.  This is a home where they house children who cannot live with their own families for various reasons such as physical, sexual, or substance abuse.  Sometime the kids are able to go back with their families if the parents pick up their acts and figure things out but a lot of the time they are put up for adoption and this home works really hard to find a safe and loving home for them to be adopted to AS YOUNG AS POSSIBLE because they say that in Chile kids are rarely adopted above the age of 6 and then they have to hunt for international parents which is really complicated... That being said, there are 24 kids in the home that I work with all under the age of 6.  So pretty much I was sitting at one point in a room full of 8 babies under one year old and trying to give them all as much love as possible because these poor children are missing out on so much attention and love that all of us were lucky enough to have alllllll the time when we were babies.  Doing this internship while also taking my Social Work and Child Development/Children's human rights class is incredible because I read about how important it is for kids to have physical contact and a rol model and/or principle care taker in their lives and then I go to this home where none of that is fully possible to the extent that is necessary.  There was one point when I went to the hospital with two other workers and three babies, two 2 month olds and one 1 year old.  I was holding one 2 month old after she'd had her vaccine and calming her down and she fell asleep luckily.  Then the 1 year old was brought out and she was hysterical (understandably) and i was trying to calm her and pat her and talk to her because I was holding the 2 month old and the nurse said "All she wants is a hug" and it suddenly hit me really hard that all this poor kid wanted was Mommy's arms to crawl into after such a traumatic experience as a vaccine.  I put the 2 month old in her stroller and picked up the 1 year old and she automatically wrapped her arms around me and stopped screaming and literally ONLY wanted to be held and loved.  I was always lucky enough to have my Mom's arms right there for me as soon as I got a shot (I hated shots as a kid and always tried to give them to Zach through my band-aid so I have a lot of sympathy for them ha).  Anyway, as you can see my internship has opened up my eyes to all of the social issues surrounding kids that do not have some type of stable family situation and I still truly believe that if every child was fully loved in the world we really wouldn't have many issues.  I don't know this experience is pretty much solidifying for me that I want to do SOMETHING that has to do with helping vulnerable kids for my job.... don't ask me what yet but I'm brainstorming ha.

Anyway, the only other new thing I can think of is that I joined a volleyball team that plays every Sunday and they are all students in the Agriculture department at my school and seem super nice!  They all assumed I was a middle because I'm such a giant here which I thought was hilarious because on my CAL team I am one of the shorter ones (and I can't jump which causes issues).

I love you all so much and will try to be better about my blogs! Now that I am fully settled and just living life I kind of forgot about this but will try to do it once a week again.

Que tengan buen dia!
